This is the first in a series of NCC Competitiveness Bulletins examining issues of concern to the Council. This Bulletin (15-1) considers the impact of electricity prices on competitiveness.
A reliable and competitively priced supply of energy is vital for all businesses, especially those seeking to compete successfully in international markets. The urgent challenge facing Ireland is to reduce energy costs while delivering on our security of supply and environmental sustainability objectives. Above average electricity prices are damaging Ireland’s competitiveness. The new Energy White Paper must re-balance Ireland’s energy policy to prioritise cost competitiveness.
