    Date:13 May 2021
    Source: NCPC
    Topics: Competitiveness Bulletins

The COVID-19 pandemic has rapidly accelerated a shift to increased remote working. This NCPC Bulletin examines the remote working experience in Ireland to date and focuses on the impact of remote working on enterprises, and how a new type of blended working environment is likely to develop with implications for Ireland’s future competitiveness and productivity.

The Bulletin examines three areas, namely:

    • the benefits and costs of remote working to enterprises,
    • the productivity implications of remote work, and
    • the need to ensure that all of Ireland’s regions remain competitive and attractive places in which to live and do business as new possibilities emerge for people to work in locations away from the traditional workplace.

The NCPC will explore the wider individual and societal aspects of remote working later this year in Ireland’s Competitiveness Challenge 2021, and, where appropriate, the Council will make policy recommendations to Government.
