NCPC Welcomes Government's Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity
Today (September 10th, 2025) Dr. Frances Ruane, the Chair of the National Competitiveness and Productivity Council (NCPC), welcomed the publication by Government of the Action Plan on Competitiveness and Productivity. The Action Plan focuses on the areas of Ireland’s competitiveness and productivity that fall within the domestic sphere of influence. This mirrors the Council’s own assessment highlighting the need to focus on “controlling the controllables”.
Dr. Ruane said:
“This Action Plan comes at a time of rapid geopolitical and economic change. The Council valued the opportunity to contribute to its development, both through the analysis included in this year’s Competitiveness Challenge report, and as part of my participation in the Competitiveness Summit, that was held in July.”
The Action Plan contains 85 actions for enhancing Ireland’s competitiveness and productivity performance, with 26 of these identified as priority actions. These actions are set out across the following six themes:
- Embracing Research, Innovation and Skills;
- Boosting FDI and Exports and Influencing at EU Level;
- Creating and Scaling More SMEs;
- Regulating for Growth and Controlling Costs;
- Increasing the State’s Capacity to Delivery Infrastructure; and,
- Growing Sustainable Irish Businesses and Boosting Regional Development.
